A Fishbowl....With No Fishies!

Yesterday at the shop, we had a huge sale...At the checkout, everyone got to dip into the "fishbowl" and grab a slip. Then they got anywhere from 15% off (with a free gift (some were $100 leather needle cases!))up to 30% off their entire purchase! Well, needless to say, we were very, very busy!!!

So I will be kicking up my heels today & doing some knitting (if I could only narrow it down to what I feel like working on today!!!)

Yay! More Work!

So I realize this sounds like an oxymoron, but I am actually really, really excited about the prospect of more work! Today I had a meeting with the owner of the LYS where I work & my hubby (who is our webmaster). We are planning to expand into online sales and I will be playing a part in the development & management of the site!

On another note, I mentioned in my first entry, that some really special entries got timed out in my previous attempts at blogging. The most recent one prior to my success here, had been about a very special friend of my family, who had just undergone major surgery. Her oldest daughter, whom I babysat during my teens, will be 30 soon & is getting married. I asked her daughter if I could gift her with a wedding shawl, and today I picked out some yummy yarns, based on the verbal color-scheme she provided. I put a bunch on reserve until th color samples arrive, but I am sooooooo looking forward to making this capelet for her!

Exhausted, but living on adrenaline fumes! Overall, simply a banner day!

An Apple for the Teacher!

One of the things I love most about my job is teaching...specifically teaching kids & teens. Today we had a group of teens from a local high school come in. They had selected some projects from the Teen Knitting Club book. It was such a blast to see these girls learn new techniques and really get into their projects!

WIP it.....WIP it Good!

I have more Works In Progress (WIPs), than is right for any human to have. I work 3/4 time & homeschool my 1st grader (he knits, too!), so time is at a premium here at Casa Stro.

And working in "yarn heaven" doesn't help! The upscale shop I work at has luscious hand-dyed yarns that arrive several times a week. As soon as I get motivated to try to complete an older project, something new and beautiful comes in and just calls me...."kniiiiiiiiiiit meeeeee......kniiiiiiiiiit meeeeee". Well, when yarns talks to you, you have to answer!
Currently, I am working on a father/son vest set made with Rowan's Calmer (in sage green). Also in the works are an obi from Simply Knit (???); a diagnonal eyelet blanket for my son; socks (Lorna's Laces self-striping yarn!); a display scarf for the shop made with Trendsetter's Sunshine & Plymouth's Spazzini; and a maxi-vest from Tahki's New Tweed (my own design!)...Oh yeah, and a backpack to felt for my son.

This morning is Spanish class for my son & lunch with his best friend afterward, so adios!

Blogging...Officially!

Okay, so I've tried this blogging thing a ba-zillion times now...I'll wait while you Google "'One Knitting Mama" AND "Blog'"....

And without fail, my muse visits (and that's rare as you will find out!), I wax all poetical, and then my stinking session times out.

So, I get discouraged....

Then I see a cool blog....

And get wistful...."I wish I could do that!"

And realize, I can!

So the search goes on for yet another site. So consider this my litmus test of this site, world! Don't get used to me, because I may disappear (though if you're seeing this much, it's a good sign!)
I'm off now in search of sustenance before teaching a knitting class tonight ("How To Read a Pattern" if you must know, nosy!)
