Still on "Jury Duty"...

I am mid-sleeve #1 on The Juror. Hopefully, I am on pace to finish by Monday!

Such a Big Boy...and Other Musings....

Sorry for not posting after scaring you all with my "wrist drama". It is better & seemed to take care of itself, though I get the occasional "gentle reminder" to pace myself & watch it!

I haven't posted because it's been one of those crazy roller-coaster of a ride weeks. My will-be-eight-year-old-next-Monday started diabetes day camp this past Monday. My son has the genetic, auto-immune, insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetes. They have an awesome day camp nearby, underwritten by all the big companies (thank you!), and, just as God would have it, the nurse assigned to his team just so happens to be the nurse we used to see at his doctor's office (she recently retired)!

He's having a blast, but poor mama is having a tough time that her big little man is off each morning with barely a "see ya, Mom". You wait for this day, where your child is secure and independent, but when it comes, its a bittersweet pill!

But he misses me tremendously and tells me so. Each night he asks for "cuddle time" with me, and crashes snuggled up to my side. It warms my heart and I wonder how many more of these precious golden moments I will have before he gets "too big". Hopefully, he'll always have a hug or two for me!

On the knitting front, I took advantage of the week to teach knitting camps. There are two 2-hour camps each day: 1 for knitters; 1 for non-knitters. In addition, I had a regularly scheduled Knitting Refresher Course tonight that I taught as well!

So Mama's been a little busy this week. The Juror is coming along famously. I do have to jam on with it though, given my pace is slowed down with the wrist thing, and I am humming along on a project I am teaching for a free workshop this weekend.

Nooooooooooooooo!

So I'm really chugging away on The Juror...Back: check; Front: Just under the halfway point. So why the Drama Queen "Noooooooooooooooooooo"???

I woke up to a wristful o' pain!

I can switch to Continental but it will make my gauge a little wonky (and I *am* working on the front, mind you!!). I can wear my ever-so-attractive wrist brace (courtesy of a double case of pregancy induced carpal tunnel 8 years ago); or I can not knit for a week (and absolutely lose whatever small shred is left of my sanity & that of those around me....not to mention the fact I would lose a week of VKT (Valuable Knitting Time) and my son's birthday is a week and 3 days away (and this is one of his gifts!)).

Hmmmm....which door to choose?

The Juror

I finished the back for The Juror on Monday night (I started it Friday night...it went fast!!). It's my favorite pattern from the yet-to-be-published Yarn Girls book. My Knitspiration co-conspirators said I was teasing. Teasing is not knitting from an unavailable book...teasing is saying, "Neener, Neener, mine is autographed"...(which, by the way, it is....)

The picture does not do the gorgeous colors justice (::::gigglesnort:::: Justice? The juror? I crack myself up!)

TKGA Guild Night - Closures!

Yet another educational Knitspiration night! Pam taught us several methods for making coordinating closures. Very, very cool!

More TNNA Tidbits

The Yarn Girls did another book signing for their latest & I thank them heartily! It's The Yarn Girls Guide to Knits For Older Kids...thankyouthankyouthankyou! As the mother of an almost-eight-year-old son, not only are patterns hard to come by for this age group, but ones for boys? That are actually cute? Thankyouthankyouthankyou (which I said to them several times...they must think I'm nuts!) Read my full review here

Debbie Stoller!

I don't have fumbly fingers! My beloved 8125 saved the day! Here she is in all her glory: the Incomparable Ms. Debbie Stoller!

TNNA Indianapolis...

I had a blast! The yarns were luscious; the people were amazing; the knitterati were out en masse; the manufacturers treated us like royalty; and I got to fondle enough yarn to last...well....well, to last awhile, let's say! :)

I met: Vickie Howell of Knitty Gritty. A total doll. She lives life at a 100 miles an hour, but she's a sweetheart. I staked out the front of the line because I wanted autographs for... (can't tell you for whom yet, don't want the old blog spoiling any surprises!!!)...plus she signed a copy of her new book for me.

Additionally, I met some cool new line buddies. A shout out to Heidi from Kentucky; and Lizzie, award-winning intern for Tahki/S. Charles in the Pathways into Professional Needlearts program (PIPN).

I got to meet Nicky Epstein, Rita Weiss, Candi Jensen and Debbie Stoller (who signed the Happy Hooker book for me & wouldn't that be the time my fingers got all fumbly and didn't take the picture right...it didn't save to my phone...arrgghh!!!). Our shop owner, Jan Hurwitz, has two (amazing) designs in her new 2007 calendar!

Though I met them last time, I still get star struck around the Stacy Charles of S. Charles; Diane Friedman, owner of Tahki; the magazine folks, Pam Allen of Interweave and Adina Klein of Vogue; Esther Yun-Mancini, Art Director for TSC; and Nancy Thomas, Creative Director for TSC.

We went to the invitation-only Tahki/Stacy Charles (TSC) breakfast & got a preview of the upcoming trends. They always put together an amazing breakfast, packed with information and in such a well-done fashion. We got advance copies of a few Fall mags, and some of the pattern books. Y'all are in for a treat this upcoming season!

Westminster also invited us to their breakfast. Fashion show and goodie bags filled with yarn, need I say more? Now I know what the stars feel like backstage at the awards show with the goodie bags...LOL!

We also had a blast when we went out to grab a bite at the Indy Circle City Mall Johnny Rockets. You haven't seen anything until you've seen the guys perform Stayin' Alive!

And I came home to a spotless house! Gotta love it! Those boys of mine finally got the storage space to put all of hubby's eBay stuff and all our extra boxes away! I have closets again! Wooo hooo! Major points for the boys!
