Mi Carro Nuevo!

So y'all know about the week I had: It's better, but I've had some complications that are worrisome, but hopefully, too, will soon pass. So, it thrilled me no end to finally have my own set of wheels again! Hubby bought me a (new to me, at least!) car!
After learning to drive at the ripe old age of 29, I never had a car of my own until I "retired" from full time work at 33. Hubby picked me up from work on my last day in a car we bought from a friend. But, it didn't live very long (a year or two maybe), and until now, we've shared a car. I'm not complaining because I feel blessed to have a car at all! But, when I had my last car, we were living in San Francisco, which has pretty decent transportation, so you could still get around with one car (or without a car at all). Here in Silicon Valley, everything is so spread out...and when you homeschool, you really feel the lack of your own set of wheelz!
This isn't the greatest pic ever. I'll have to take a better one another time! We just signed the paperwork this morning and inked the deal with a friend from church.
Yay, me! And, yay for wonderful hubbies!
Obligatory Knitting Content (OKC): The classes yesterday went great! We had a lot of fun & I had two great groups of students!

My Week....
I have to very publically thank my husband and son, who have waited on me hand and foot and have been basically all-around wonderful guys (this is nothing out of the ordinary, but this week it's worth a special mention!)
I didn't feel much like knitting between coughing fits, wheezing and general chest spasms, but I did manage to knit a little on Melba and hope to have it done soon.
I'm teaching a basic Fixing Mistakes class this weekend, along with one on Intarsia, and I think we'll have a lot of fun!

Tommy, We Hardly Knew Ye....
Obligatory Knitting Content (OKC): Cast on for the front of Melba Sue, even though I haven't felt like knitting in this heat (I had two asthma attacks today).

Finished...With Finishing!

I simply despise finishing....necessary evil or no. So I have found a solution: Your own personal Finishing Fairy!
It's ironic, because in the classes I teach, I talk about the necessity of learning to correct mistakes, because there are no "Knitting Faeries", but apparently there are "Finishing Faeries"! And hooray for them!
I finally finished City Chic, but hated how the finishing was (not) coming along. So I emplored Knitting Arts very own Knitting Doctor, legendary local, Gunilla Leavitt, to do it for me, et voila...finished!
Gunilla is worth every penny you can scrounge out of the sofa cushions, plus some!
Yes, I know...it's a good skill to know, and I will attempt to master it, but it sure is nice knowing I have my own personal Finishing Fairy!

More Melba

It scares me that I am old enough turn the subject line into a play on words, but scares me more to know I'm so old a lot of you young whippersnappers won't get it! Yikes!
Anyhoo, the back of Melba Sue is done! Off to Guild Night tonight. We're making caps for charity.

Black Purl Magaine: Calling All Designers!

Black Purl Magazine is sending out a call for designers to submit their work for a worthy project: A calendar benefitting a cause near and dear to my heart...The American Diabetes Association. Check out all the info here.
I would consider it a great personal favor if you would spread the word on your blog and let's make this a "November to Rembember!"

Happy Birthday, Too....

Happy Birthday, America! And also, a belated Happy Birthday to our cat, Catherine Clawdine. We rescued her at five-weeks old. We figured her birthday to be around this time, so we just made it our son's birthday, so they could have it together.

The Verdict is In!

I may be "guilty" on one count of "hurry-let's-put-the-zipper-in-and-go-already" (literally crazily putting my foot to the metal on the sewing machine minutes before leaving for San Francisco!), but it looks like my son thoroughly enjoyed "The Juror" (and had a great 8th birthday to boot!)
